They came again, down the same old path. This time they brought archers. They were trying to hide their bows under the gray traveling cloaks, but it was obvious to Robyn's eyes, the eyes of a wolf. Two wagons traveled with them, drawn by horses of course. One of them had a small group of soldiers hidden under the tent. It meant one thing, Morlena was transporting something of extreme value to her city of Mortumlovia.
A pity, they think I can't smell them. Will they ever learn?
The second wagon had the gold in it. Robyn could smell that too. But it had something else. Metal was within the scent of it. Something potion based as well.
We'll have to be careful when attacking.
She sat in the tree tops, waiting patiently. They soon would be on the trap door they had dug out into the trail. It wouldn't open until she cut the rope.
The first carriage, the one with soldiers, walked above it. They didn't seem to hear the hollowness underneath. The carriage passed over and continued. The second carriage approached. As the horses stepped upon the trap Robyn's excitement grew. The horses drew the wheels to it. It was time.
Her clawed hands, the only featured that showed her wolf side other than her white ears and tail, sliced through the rope with ease. The trap worked perfectly, and the wagon fell through at once. The ropes attached to the horses snapped as they bolted out of control from the scare.
Robyn howled to signal the attack.
"It's her!" An archer yelled but obviously not seeing where she was. The first wagon's tent was thrown off and twenty soldiers in iron armor ushered out. Robyn took an arrow, one that had a tip carved as a hawk, and fired in the center of that wagon. As it made contact with the wood, the arrow erupted into a fiery explosion. The second set of horses ran dragging some soldiers by reigns. She pulled another arrow, one with a normal tip, and aimed at an archer and shot him between the eyes.
The archers took aim where the arrow flew from but didn't get their shots off before they heard the charge. Little John and Took, in Stag form, knocked them to the ground as they bolted past.
Easy win for the merry thieves.
